‘We have a responsibility to protect your data’: Mark Zuckerberg on Cambridge Analytica scandal –

With Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg admitted to mistakes that led to compromise of 5 crore user data to attain political power, a new hoax is thriving the internet – The BFF and Account security.

What is the Hoax ?

A Facebook feature called Text Delight which animates green and red, it also animates when you click on it. The social network has been experimenting with these for awhile — we all probably seen the words congratulations or xoxo (or some variation thereof.) earlier. When posted, these words appear as a different color and clicking on them triggers a brief animation (balloons or hearts, for example.)

Imaginative minds, and clever marketeer has linked this feature to Facebook Security, and number of posts are flooding the internet, urging the user to type BFF and to find out account’s integrity.

As the following appears with the post of Facebook

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, invented the word BFF. To make sure your account is safe on Facebook, type BFF in a comment. If it appears green, your account is protected. If it does not appear in green, change your password immediately because it will be hacked.

Here is fact !

Yes that is true! The Letters BFF turn green when typed because they have been chosen by Facebook as a “special” comment produce a brief visual animation to appear on the screen. The letters BFF stands for “Best Friends Forever”, and typing in the comment shows two hands “high fiving”[But not all the time]. This animation will be triggered by bff or bffs.

Now, Facebook is updating the list of words that triggers these animations. Additions include: “rad,” “bff,” “lmao,” and “thank you so much.” All of those words will now come with their own colors and animation effects.

Why Does Facebook Do So?

As social media platform provider ,goal of Facebook is user retention. To provide new experiences to user Facebook keeps adding this type of functionalities to delight its users and increase engagement, so that they can reduce bounce rate of their page, which in turn will increase revenue from advertisers. It is just another marketing plan to quantify user engagement

Even if TextDelight works it does not guarantee safety of your account, which relies more on security and privacy setting of the account. So Happy BFFing…
